I would say it was about half an hour later when I started hearing noises. I knew that my friend and my cousin were asleep, they had returned prior to us by about an hour. I heard the noise of a baby cry and thought that odd because we were the only four people in the whole inn. I heard some other noises and the weirdest thing was that I heard this sort of electrical grinding noise sort of like an electrical can opener. It sounded like it was coming from the little clock on the night stand so Ifigured maybe it needed to be wound, it did look old.
The room was an attic room as I have mentioned and so the ceiling leaned in due to the roof. Sort of like a dormer. The bed was set in the middle of the wall and pushed up against it as far as it could be with the headboard and there was a small gap. This caused the ceiling to slant up above it and there was a swag that hung over the top of the bed and down the sides. It was sheer so you caould see through it. The night stand was right next to it on the right side of the bed. Beyond that in the corner, there was an antique baby carriage. It had big wheels and a canopy, there were some old porcelain dolls in it. Two of them, which I had covered with a sweatshirt earlier in the day as I had unpacked so they wouldn't get "cold" (I Was a little girl once) Along the right side wall was an electric baseboard heater and out suitcases were on the floor. The doorway was along the back wall with a very beautiful dresser and the adjacent wall was a window then it bumped out a bit and an antique crib with more baby dolls in it (which I covered as well)
I picked up the clock to wind it and really, to my surprise, it was battery operated. Two AA duracells right there! I looked for an explanation as to what might have been making the noise. I shook the clock, nothing. I put it back down and thought I was being totally ridiculous. I was hearing things in a old, strange, house and I was running on hardly any sleep for the last couple of days along with a long drive. Problem solved. I decided to finish the chapter I was reading and go to sleep except I had to pee really bad but I was too scared to get up and go downstairs by my self. A few minutes later I heard K&J's door open and someone head down the stairs. I jumped out of bed and ran down the stairs and stood in front of the door and subsequently scared the crap out of my cousin when he came out. I asked him had he heard anything and he said he haden't and had been asleep since about ten pm. I went to the bathroom and then back upstairs to try and get some sleep. When I went back in I noticed a distinct creek that my door made and noticed that my sister had not skipped a beat. She was still sound asleep and haden't moved a muscle. I closed the door and hopped back into bed, finished my chapter and turned out the light. I had just about drifted off to sleep when the noises started again. This time I heard old keys jingle like someone was fumbling with them then I heard the door to our room open and close. But it didn't because the light in the hallway would have shown in. I was FREAKING but trying not to move, not to breathe, just observe. a few seconds later, a girl was standing at the foot of the bed facing the window with her head turned toward us. She was slender and had light colored hair. It was long and she had a very blunt cut in front giving her bangs. She had on a white nightdress that went to the calf and bare feet. The bodice was made of lace and was square, the sleeves of the gown came down and covered most of her fingers. I lay there and held my breath. She looked at us for a while and then turned her head toward the window and slowly walked toward it and was gone. There were no lights on in the room just moonlight coming through the window. I desperately tried to wake up my sister and dug the point of my elbow into her spine so hard, she had bruises the next day. I could not wake her up. Which is strange because she has always been a light sleeper. I had no Idea what to do. I just layed there. I pulled the covers up to my nose and tried to look at the ceiling so I wouldn't see anything else. It was a while but it seemed like forever before I got up the nerve to turn my head and look at the clock. It was 3:14 and I felt the room, which had been quite toasty, go cold. VERY COLD, I could see my breath. Then I heard that baby carriage move and saw the swag between me and the nightstand move. Like someone had pulled it back. I felt two dents in the bedcovers like someone small had rested their elbows on it and hands propping up their chin. By now, I was terrified. I slowly turned my head and heard childs footsteps run into the middle of the room, 4 or 5 steps then it was gone. I can't explain it but I felt it leave the rooom. It sounded like little Mary Janes. I must have drifted to sleep as I was praying to GOD for the sun to come up and not let anything bad happen. I was really really scared that night but I didn't feel threatened at all. I felt like whoever it was was more curious about my sister and I. I don't fee that anything there was malicious or wanted to do any harm. I had some very vivid dreams that night and the next thing I remember is my cousin banging on the door at about 8 am telling us to get up and come down to breakfast. I Flew out of my bed and into their room to ask them if they had had any experiences. They kind of llooked at me like I was nuts and said no.
We all had breakfast then went to meet up with the rest of the family. We all went into Pen Yan to watch my little cousin's football game at the high school and there was a dinner or something later that night. My friend and I decide to drive back to the inn after the football game to get ready for dinner. On the way, I told her about the ghosts in the room and she was kind of like ok sure. We got out of the car and decided to hike up to the Tea House up in the woods over the gorge. When we went in, there were a bunch of journals up there that past guests had written in and some of the stories of things that had happened to them. I remember one of the entries was a woman who had written that she heard some strange noises and had some occurances and she didn't like it there at all and could not wait to leave. We hiked back down to the main house and the Inn Keeper was sitting out on the porch reading a book. I pulled out a chair right next to her and my friend sat behind me. I asked her to tell me about the house and she started going on about the history. I cut her off and said, I think we both know that is not what I am talking about. She took off her glasses and closed her book, leaned into me and said "Do you see them often?" A chill ran up my spine and I told her no. She asked what room I was in and I told her the Yellow Rose Room. She looked straight at me and said oh, you met Rose. She then went on to describe her and said she had had a psychic friend of hers come in and identify some of the spirits in the house. I could see the hair on my friend's arm stand up. I never told her or described what had happened to me to the innkeeper, I just let her talk and tell me. She said she liked having them there and they were meant to comfort and protect her. One of the spirits was the original owner of the house and there was a mirror in the upstairs parlor that she did not like the placing of. Many times, the mirror would be found on the floor in the middle of the room and ther was no way the mirror could have just fallen off the wall, jumped over the couch and land face up on the carpet and not break. I was pretty creeped out after that even though I didn't feel threatened I did not stay there the next night, even though I paid for the room. I now regret that, I wish I had stayed and tried to make contact. It was my first profound haunting experience and I have never been back there although I have tried to find it once or twice at other times when I have visited the lake with no avail. I will definately seek it out the nex time I am there and check in on my "friends".
OK so for some reason, Vox would not save my whole las blog on ORBS. I wil repost that later. Tonight is the EVE of Halloween!!! I will invite you to post your stories of spooks and gouls in the comments section here. What is your scariest or favorite ghost story. Please make it something personal that has happened to you. My favorit personal experience happened in NY in the Fingerlakes. I was staying at a B&B with my sister (we shared a room and bed) and my Very Best friend and my cousin. We had gone up to Keuka lake just after both my father's parents had passed. My cousin had done some carpentry work on the house and suggested we stay there because it was soooo cool and so beautiful and he mentioned it was haunted. I wasn't sure I believed him but agreed mostly because I had never stayed at a B&B. We checked in late in the afternoon we arrived. It was about a 7 hour drive from Virginia where we all lived to Branchport, NY. I had heard stories about the amenities on the property like the Tea house and the Celtic Maze so I was eager to drop off our stuff and check it out. We arrived and started to unload, it was about 4pm I think. As soon as I hit the door and walked into the kitchen, I felt it. Heaviness, thickness, I am not sure what it was but it hit me like a ton of bricks. I just felt like... there were other people there. Folks I couldn't see and the room felt crowded. We took our stuff upstairs to our room and there were antique baby dolls and a carriage along with a crib inhabiting the room. There was a full bed with a curtain type swag that hung from the ceiling and framed just the head of the bed with tie backs to allow access to the night stand on my side of the bed. The room was in the attic portion of the house along with three other rooms one of which called the Mid-evil room, my cousin and my best friend stayed in. It happened to be kitty corner across a hallway which had a dome light that stayed on all the time affixed to the ceiling in the middle. To the right, was the Native american room. It was decorated as such and was on the east side of the house, to the right of our room. To the left was immediately a stairway and to the left of that was the Childrens room which boasted two double beds and plenty of parapehnalia to keep even the LEAST creative child entertained. We dropped off our stuff and I noted that it was plesant with the window open on an October afternoon in Western NY but would get chilly as soon as the sun set so with foresight, I closed the window and turned on the baseboard heater. By the time we set out to meet the rest of the family for dinner at the VALLEY INN in Guyanoga, the room had grown toasty. We left and had dinner and although K and J had left to return to the inn, my sister and I stayed to hang with the family for another hour or so. We knew the place had a curfew of 11 and ended up being a little late returning at about 11:30. We quietly snuck in through the kitchen and it felt very thin this time. We stole away up to our room and immediately started getting ready for bed given our driving fatigue from the day. Sister threw on some sweats and hit the sack while I threw on the same and got under the covers with a good book. It was super warm in there due to the heater I had turned on before hand. I was reading "animal Farm" I could hear my sister drift off and fall into the rythumatic breathing of sleep that was most welcome after a day of travel, food, family and contenetment........
